5 Ways To Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle

Believe it or not but after you have cleaned up your diet and started to see results that's when the hardest part of the fitness journey begins... maintaining it. Live Science Reported that “20 percent of overweight or obese Americans are successful at losing at least 10 percent of their body weight and keeping this weight off for at least a year.” But what about the rest of the people that lost the weight? Researchers who followed more than 700 people who successfully lost at least 30 lbs. and kept it off for a year or more found that 91 percent reported they had previously made unsuccessful weight-loss attempts before they were finally able to keep the weight off. After you change your lifestyle and jump on the healthy living bandwagon, there comes a time when you might want to jump off and run to the nearest fast-food spot. According to the US Department of Health & Human Services “Since the 1970s, the number of fast-food restaurants has more than doubled” in the United States… that's a lot of temptation! Stop caving into those cravings that keep you from maintaining a healthy lifestyle and seem to be in your face everywhere you turn. Here at Svetness we came together and broke down the 5 easiest ways you can stay fit. The best part is they ACTUALLY WORK!

1. Being 100% honest with yourself about what you can and cannot control!

There is always room for improvement when it comes to your fitness routine and diet. Understanding what you are able to control within your health and wellness journey is a huge step forward! Sometimes you might not want to go to the gym simply because you are lazy and other times it might be because you are genuinely exhausted. Recognizing those differences is going to make a world of difference in your life.

2. Create some fitness goals that are not just about how much weight you've lost or gained!

It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers when seeing your body change in the mirror and on the scale. One of the best tips we can offer people trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle is creating healthy fitness goals that have nothing to do with how much weight you want to gain or lose. Instead of saying “I want to lose 15 more lbs.” try a new goal like “I want to improve my running endurance”. Sometimes a mental switch can improve your outcome.

3. Stop bottling up your emotions

Keeping your emotions locked inside of you can cause emotional stress as well as a physical response. When you’ve reached a plateau in your weight gain or loss journey there may come a time when there is a lot of unresolved issues you need to vocalize. Without vocalizing your emotions, they can lead to sleeping problems, depression, and even eating disorders. Expressing your feelings in a healthy way will help you to keep up your healthy lifestyle.

4. Don't focus on dieting, focus on eating healthier!

Once you have taken the leap into the world of healthy living, your body gets used to it! Your body becomes used to the exercise and healthy eating. When you continuously eat healthy and exercise instead of temporally jumping on food trends and diets you will most likely be able to maintain your healthy weight and fitness routine. Keep track of what you eat every day in a journal. It helps to hold yourself accountable and develop healthy great eating habits.

5. Consistency > Fitness Kicks

The last tip and probably the most important thing is to stay consistent with your routine! It's not a diet… it’s a lifestyle, so start treating it like one! When you stop looking at your fitness routine or diet as something temporary it stops becoming temporary and settles into being your new normal. Set reminders that go off every morning to hold you accountable for staying on track.
